Perfume, What Is It, Anyway?
There are essentially five types of perfume, but virtually all perfume is made from ethyl alcohol and essential fragrance oils. The difference in each type of perfume comes in the percentages of each.
For those with sensitivity to fragrances, Eau Fraiche is a good choice, it is the weakest type of perfume and has the least amount of fragrance, with only about 1 to 3 percent essential oil fragrance and the remainder, 97 to 99 percent, ethyl alcohol.
The next strongest, with about 4 or 5 percent essential oil fragrance is Eau de Cologne.
Eau de Toilette is the next strongest perfume with anywhere from 8 to 15 percent essential oil fragrance.
Eau de Parfum is stronger still with about 15 to 22 percent essential oil.
The strongest and most costly fragrance is simply called Perfume with about 22 to 25 percent essential oil fragrance and 75 to 78 percent ethyl alcohol. » Read more: Hey, You Smell Good, What Is That You’re Wearing?
